How the screen works
- Business activity. Companies whose main business is impermissible are excluded: conventional banking and insurance, alcohol, tobacco, gambling, pork, adult entertainment and similar. Listings whose industry cannot be decided are marked for review.
- Debt and cash (AAOIFI). Interest-bearing debt and cash plus interest-bearing deposits must each be under 30% of market value. These ratios are checked for the 80 companies with full balance-sheet data; 62 of them pass.
- Not applied: the 5% income test. Impermissible income (such as interest) should be under 5% of revenue. No free source publishes the breakdown it needs, so check it with a scholar or a specialist screening service before you invest.
Automated screen for information only, not a fatwa and not investment advice. The 5% impermissible-income test is not applied: check with a scholar before deciding. Screen updated: 2026-10-29.
